The Vic Park Raiders have been resident in Vic Park since 1953 – when it was known as the Perth Centrals JFC. Back then it was based at a couple of other parks in the district before settling into its current home at Higgins Park in the early ‘90s – and changing its name along the way to the Raiders. Like most suburban footy clubs, there has been an ebb and flow of different home grounds over a long period of time. Our present times are no different as the Town of Vic Park is currently undertaking a Master Plan of future development of Higgins Park. The outcome of this master plan may have a significant impact and result in the relocation of the Raiders – along with the possible placement of a 1.8m high fence to enclose a synthetic turf playing field for hockey.
The Vic Park Raiders are just like the TOVP, in the sense of being composed of diverse, multicultural elements – where differences are respected and successes are celebrated. Just like the town where we live, the Raiders have a strong association of caring for its families – and a long history of supporting the underdogs of our community. To many families in the area, the Raiders represent a beacon that assists young kids to have a real purpose in life – and to give them the confidence to transfer what they learn on the footy field to their own personal lives.
We urge you to provide your support for improved facilities in tandem with two marked ovals that provide the space that our growing boys and girls teams need to train and play Junior AFL on. At the same time, we want to keep public open space at Higgins Park so that Higgins Park can be enjoyed by all local residents for years to come.
